Quote "How much sail did they have up ? . I can see they have no genoa up , have they got 2 or 3 reefs in the main"

Not obvious from the video, manufactures recommendation for the L52 for Force 9 / 47 knots is 3rd reef in main and 30% headsail. So could still just have 3rd reef in main or could be just scudding under bare Poles.

The L52 present a fair bit of windage to wind from the aft quarter.Would be interesting to know.

When you hit this 655 speed, where being towed up or down the face of the wave by a one or two African Swallows. It could have a bearing on the validity of your speed claim.

Not sure. I was motoring 745% of the time. The swallows might have been European. How do you tell ? I couldn't go outside to look, because it's not air-conditioned out there.

Once those cats take to the air, anything is possible.

I believe that is something best left between a man and his Swallow.

Not sure that sounds correct!!!

We did 20 knots down a wave in our 440 with 35 knots on wind off Tasmania, so i could see it doing 27 knots down a wave.

I don't believe GPS max boat speeds. We've got a speed puck, and if you pick it up and move it even a foot or 2, the speed changes on the puck. So yeah, the antenna might be moving at that speed, but it is also being affected by pitch, yaw, rolling, wave movement, etc. Our puck has a readout for max speed over any 10 second interval, which is much more believable.

I've never sailed a cat in anything above about 25 kts so far and not in such open water. Is it typical for the leeward bow to submerge completely like that when surfing down the waves? That part freaks me out a little.

It depends on the design, but generally no you do not want the bow submerged. But it's just like shipping green water over the bow on a monohull.

I did go back and rewatch the video, but I didn't see the bow ever submerge. Kick up spray a couple of times sure, but never submerge.

Please stop being sensible. The crowd wants to believe this boat can outsail a Gunboat, let them.

For those of you interested in vblogs though, I really would recommend you watch their series. At least get the Admiral to watch them. I might just be able to get a new boat due to this Dutch couple.
