Lagoon catamaran gelcoat blistering

Seems Lagoons do get blistering if they have a defective layup and gelcoat or if you don't maintain the barrier coat regularly....what's yours like under the antifoul?

Self promoting video on 15 year old boat, don’t recall Lagoon back then using vinyl ester, Leopards did.

Re: Lagoon catamaran gelcoat blistering

Owners manual states vinylester was used as an anti osmosis barrier. below the waterline..... No self promotion intended. or anything to be gained...just to advise owners that a barrier coat needs to be maintained as Lagoon doesn't advise about underwater maintenance recommendations. Also to show a technique for identifying voids in the gelcoat not visible in daylight......but you would of seen that if you watched the complete video.

Re: Lagoon catamaran gelcoat blistering

Yesterday I finished strippping our 2015 Lagoon 380 back to gelcoat as I am moving to Coppercoat.

Last haulout I bribed them to use the high setting on the power washer which opened a few tiny voids.
I found a larger void by poking around a tiny small crack that I found at the bow.
Low quality gelcoat paintjob at the centerline seam where the 2 hull halves are joined.

Other than that: Excellent condition. Not a single blister anywhere, no cracks, nothing.

Also nice to see that the boat truly never had any groundings or damage.

Re: Lagoon catamaran gelcoat blistering

I have owned a 1999 410, a 2008 380 and now a 2015 380. No problems on any of these.
We always use dry storage for winter, and I always have a close look at all other cats I see in the yard. I am pretty sure I have seen 50+ Lagoon out of the water. Right now there are 6 (!) older Lagoon 380 wintering next to me in the yard.
Again I have _never_ seen anything like your problems. I have seen blistering, but that was always due to bad repairs. Never blistering all over the place.

Somehow I suspect yours was a either a testbed for some new gelcoat formula at the factory. Or someone messed it up later. Maybe they did not apply the initial barrier coat during commissioning? Or maybe a previous owner already had it blasted and failed to seal the gelcoat properly.

Whatever the cause was: This is not the usual Lagoon problem.

2008 was the time when Fountaine Pajot had major blistering issues.
Maybe your boat is a FP?
Or maybe it doesn't feel like a Lagoon and considers itself a FP?
