Lets Start A New TV Show

This old Sail
Boat. I get to go first.
I think it would be a hit. every one dreams to get on the water .
there is lots of directions this show could go . What do you think?
about fixing up a boat and selling it.
I would watch it all the time!

Re: lets start a new TV show

I suspect there are a lot more folks looking for the channel about souped up lawn mowers and snow mobiles. Then "prepping" them for the ultimate disaster. With interludes for cute puppy and cat videos. Watching people sand, interminably, then paint and sand some more, only appeals to a very small number of strange individuals, and we don't spend enough money at the store, or boat yard, to warrant commercial sponsorship. As the old phrase goes: "follow the money".

Re: lets start a new TV show

There is a TV show about boats and boating, "Ship Shape TV" Ship Shape TV

It's not about sailing, it's about power boats and in reality, it's little more than an infomercial. Whatever product the host can get for free he installs on one of his boats or his dock, yet I watch it every week, even the reruns about how to redo the deck of his pontoon boat.

Remember that TV shows have to have an audience and the audience has to be made up of people who will go out and buy the sponsor's products. Boaters and in particular, sail boaters are a pretty small audience and most are not inclined to go out and spend a lot of money on things they don't already know they need. I think that if there was a profit in it there would already be shows about sailing.

Have you ever checked youtube.com? There are a lot of videos there on sailing and boating. Some are pretty good, some are awful.

Re: Lets Start A New TV Show

My ex business partner and one of his associates is looking at producing a reality type show about live aboards.

They have the concept and the basic story line that they are getting ready to pitch to the producer community ($$$$$)

And, they even have a working series name....." A Floater's Life"

I haven't spoke with them since last fall so I don't know how they are doing, but these things can take a long time to come to fruition, months/years.

Re: Lets Start A New TV Show

Any body seen the extremely fake show (I can't remember the name) supposedly about marine towers and salvage operators in south Florida?

Racing each other to towing jobs, jumping into the water, "rescuing" abandoned boats off deserted beaches, etc.

That's the sort of thing producers think people will watch.

Re: Lets Start A New TV Show

Most of the successful shows have interesting people and some drama/conflict.
You have to look at American Chopper, it isn't really about building bikes.
I put forth my idea on bd, which is take my cat build coop, and get three builders with different personalities having to build three boats together.
I put myself as the techo-nerd building the solar-electric version, and then find the stereotype sailor building a sailboat, and a power boat guy. Lots of opportunity for drama. Just need two other builders and the financing..
I actually was pursuing a hotrod building show back in 1998, but didn't get the backing. And then all those car build shows come out.
