Boat: looking for catamaran after monohull was sold recently.

Just curious:
If Manta is out of business why were they present at the boat show">Miami Boat show? It seems if they don't manufacture anymore why bother with the expenses to market the boat on the boat show with all the cost attached?

Is there already someone else who bought them? I am fond of the Manta (call it my favorite 38' Cat on steroids) and would eventually consider to upgrade from my Mono hull (Island Packet 37). I saw NautiCat sitting in Palmetto with a for-sale sign on it ....

Congratulations on the new boat to markpf 23.

The issues would have been fixed already but i am waiting for the green light from Manta so I don't void any warrantees. Here is a link to videos we took on the trip. I would also be interested to know if you are considering selling your Manta, and for how much. Thanks!

Angry Manta site in Sarasota appears abandonded

I was in Sarasota in May of this year and found their factory at the address listed on mantacatamarans.com to be essentially abandonded. One aprox 50ft hull was in partial state of construction under a shed with much shredded tarp plastic. The office spaces had been cleared out and only some residual stuff remained. If they were at the most recent Miami show, it may have been one last gasp. Alternatively, they may have moved but this is highly unlikely since their web site still, in September, lists the old apparently abandonded address.

Sad to see this, and I can only hope someone buys the molds to restart it in better times and with better management, a la Prout.

While it is true that Manta has closed it doors (like many boat builders in this economy), they built GREAT boats, and there are several out there for sale. There were NONE when we were looking in 2006, so had to buy a new one , which has been fantastic. But we've seen some great-condition Mantas that are 10years old. Lot depends on the owners, maintenance, usage and what goodies are on board and in good condition. (I.E 5 year old electronics and batteries might need to be upgraded.) If you'd like a complete (I think) list, checkout the website - MantaCatamaransForSale.com. Also has a nice photo album of Manta features.

several on the market now

Phil&Maryanne, I see that there are now many Mantas on the market, at least compared to two years ago. Do you think it's the economy? And I agree with you, the Mantas are great boats. Very little negative press about them. I observe that many owners load them up with a huge amount of gear, seems to be limited more by cash than by load capacity of the boat. Is the boat that load-friendly?

Load Friendly?

The Manta 42 is a 38 foot cat extended to 42 to try to keep the sterns out of the water. It is overloaded from factory.
