Marine surveyor East Coast Australia

Hi everyone, I am very close now to our four-year-old dream and I’m looking for some honest recommendations for marine surveyors that possibly specialise in catamarans and Sailing vessels. Ideally I’m looking for somebody that will get into every small space and do an absolutely thorough job and also possibly do rigging inspection, if you have had firsthand experience with somebody like this I would love to hear about it. Please if I can ask not to just shout out for a mate, I am looking for comments from people that have actually used the surveyor. Thanks very much everyone

I've used Geoff Cruse recently (about 12 months ago) and while he is a great guy, and definitely a legend, I think the years may be catching up with him. Based on my experiences he is not someone who is going to crawl into all the deep dark recesses, or do a rigging inspection. Doesn't take the best photos either, and his survey report was lacking in comparison to some of the others I had done around the same time.

I can recommend Greg Southern for the rig inspection though.

where are you interested please ? EC aust covers a lot of territory.

we've used a chap in the sydney / newcastle area a couple of times and been really happy with him, but it's not going to be economic to get him to go to eg southport

There is also Fore and Aft on this very forum. Heard very good reports about him. Based in SEQld. Well worth a PM, I would have thought.

I’d vote “Drew” fore and aft surveyors, contactable on this forum.

Plus one for Geoff Cruse. Surveyed our boat a couple of years back. Happily sailing. No surprises

Check the Club Marine website for surveyors in the area you need. No recommendations but I believe that they are only listing the ones without a big back mark against them.

Don't forget Barry Colson, he is very well respected surveyor, yacht designer and boat builder. Like me he is Club Marine approved.
Rango I think your biggest issue will be finding a good surveyor who is not busy. I know that I am booked until the 6th of July.

Spoke to Peter Pope on the phone - seemed nice, has a reputation for finding issues.
John Funtulis (maritimesurveyor.com.au) - would not recommend at all.
