Re: Miami Boat Show ...

Started setting up our room at the show today. My poor guys have to set up three little stores in three days. They will be setting up our room at the convention center, the Gill booth at Strictly Sail, and a Costa Del Mar sunglass booth at Sea Isle Marina.
Better them than me!

Re: Miami Boat Show ...

No telling where I'll be. I like to move around but I did promise to spend some time in the Lehr outboard booth. I'll probably have to work at the store as well as most of my employees will be working the show.

Hopping a flight south tomorrow morning, time to leave the tundra and experience a 95 degree F temperature change. There's nothing like visiting Miami as a tourist. Our day will be Thursday. Less crowds, more access. Also have cats lined up to see in Ft Lauderdale and Mia Yacht Club.

Re: Miami Boat Show ...

Hello. I read this whole thread and I think it would be great to meet up with other CF members. There were a number of those concerning some places to eat but in our we think that a lot of people eat at many different times or are hungry at different times and I don't think that there will be a place that's comfortable enough if there's a whole bunch of us there. I think dinner should just be on your own and I think we should just meet someplace at a certain time and of course that would be variable.

Directly across from where the boats are tied up at strictly sail there is an open area that they have a band playing or somone singing or something It is not usually too loud which is one of my concerns. trying to meet people and talk to them is that there's a lot of noise in the background and it's hard to communicate with them.
If we could just pick a time and a day or maybe several days since some people are to be there some days and not other days after the show closes and and most people had dinner and they're ready to either go party and or find somebody to talk to. So that place right across from the strictly sailboats is a big wide-open area with plenty of room.It has a bar right there. Let's meet up and have a few drinks, meet somebody and decide to go dinner with them or hang out or do whatever.

Anyway that's my opinion it doesn't matter to me really because I'll be there Wednesday afternoon and I won't be leaving till Sunday midday so I'm good for anything really.

One thing we have done several times in the last few years going to the show is we get there Wednesday and checked into the hotel. "I'm in the hotel right across the street" and so we go and have dinner and then we go to where people are getting all the boats ready and we end up finding a way in that doesn't have as sign saying "don't go there" and we walk around the docks and look at all the boats from the outside and take mental modes and that's on Wednesday evening. The only people who ever threw us off a dock were the people that were handling the lagoon boats. They seem to ....... But everybody else was really nice and now they were ending their day cleaning the boats making ready for the show. But we actually saw a couple of boats because the people that were on the boats were owners and were staying on and now had nothing else to do.They were a world full of information and just wonderful to talk to. (A little secret there). The mean the

Re: Miami Boat Show ...

Anyway it's late now that I have to go to bed because I have a 730 case and then a long drive. I may have a chance to check cruisers forum on Wednesday night but in the meantime I know I'm going be there wandering the docks or sitting across from the sail boats in the evening on Wednesday.

If you're there, or anytime really, give me a call.

Re: Miami Boat Show ...

....was at the show 2012. Flew in from new zealand for the week sailed in on on one of the show boats. Could not believe the no.and variety of vessels everywhere...amazing!!!! Only in the US. Great venue. If you are seriously looking ,pays to get on a prospective boat last day for demo sail. Good way to see what different boats do in the same conditions and chat to owners, designers etc.

At show ,most are friendly and helpful. George at ST francis,Ken and James RCC ,french dude at leopard (whose name i forget)....all happy to answer qns..Seemed like there were some old eateries at the show itself.

Have a great time, wish i could be there.
