Missing Australian catamaran sailors?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-Tanzania.html

Grave fears for missing Australian couple whose catamaran capsized in heavy seas off the east African coast.

The upper source may be mixing things up. At one point they say capsized, a moment later it started to sink.

It was way more likely the latter if the crew took to the liferaft.

lots of currents significant/confused seas in that area...

failure of escape hatch due to wild banging under bridgedeck would fit the scenario.

We hardly ever see a sailing catamaran in that area. Seas are often rough, esp as we had a major storm come thru our area about that time. Water is also shallow which makes it very uncomfortable.

You hardly ever you see a foreign boat in that area. It is not like this coast is the top cruising destination of the world, eh?

Re: Missing Australian catamaran sailors?

Wind curves off the top of Madagascar up towards where the boat was lost. This can cause confused seas with waves against the current. 250nm from the coast is just 2 days from shore and I’m sure they would have checked the weather before leaving Tanzania.

I suppose we will never get the answer why the boat was taking water and they needed to abandon ship but any loss of life is a tragedy.Click image for larger version
