MOD 70 Phaedo 3 record passages.

Phaedo 3 has set numerous sailing records in the last few years, but I am totally impressed with their recent passages.

They won line honors in the RORC Caribbean 600, and finished on February 21. They are now in Newport, California, preparing to start on the Newport Cabo Race on March 12. That includes sailing about 4200 miles and transiting the Panama Canal.

I don't have access to the upgraded Marine Traffic searches to confirm the numbers, but I think their passage from Panama to San Diego was 5 days and 20 hours. That's about 3000 miles, starting with light airs and finishing with with stronger winds on the nose. And that was just a delivery!

Re: MOD 70 Phaedo 3 record passages.

I worked on the committee boat at some of the races where Phaedo III broke records. The first picture below is off St. Martin when they broke the circular course record. Winds weren't strong and I was only going about 6-7 knots, but in the photo their AIS showed me over 30 knots! The second was the Heineken Regatta last year, when Phaedo III flew a hull almost over us (this time on a powerboat working as the finish boat)

Here's a pretty good video of Phaedo at the start of the Carib 600, just off the coast of English Harbour, Antigua:

I'll bet they make the crew cut their toothbrushes in half, and leave them home on any runs of less than 1000 miles. One of the crew says their diesel capacity is 50 liters, but they usually only carry a fraction of that.
