Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

cool cat!
thanks for posting the pics, the thing must be able to do 25-30 knots!

im currently in santander, spain waiting for the ferry to plymouth, after delivering a 26ft westerly griffon across the biscay from the uk,3 1/2 days has got to be a record in a 26 ft bilge keel yacht!

the 33hp vetus engine is sitting in the workshop, which i hope to have running in the next few weeks, then i will head back to the cat,fit the engine, antifoul and launch, then sail /motor it 300 miles to cornwall where i can work on it ,with out having a 600mile round trip!

Looks a lot like it started life as a catalac. 230 HP on a Catalac - who would have thought.

Seems like a geat way to add new life to and old boat. I was blow away when I seen her come into the harbor.

Those lumps are not that heavy.

Light compared with diesels and the extra extended length more than makes up with extra displacement.

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Well done. Was your boat the one at Canvey Island. I hope you enjoy many years sailing pleasure. I owned the Elite for 5 years and think it an excellent design. The rear placed mast has many advantages and moving it would be detrimental to the sailing ability and configuration of the Elite. I always found my boat very responsive and easy to handle. I have the Prout Quasar 50 at present and whilst it is a beautiful boat, it is too big for me on my own so I will revert to the Elite. Be careful about changing established design except by a minimum amount. The designers tested many things that account for her shape and style. Best wishes. Peter Hatcher

thank you peter for the input!
welcome to the forum as well,im sure you will find lots of good stuff here!

yes the cat is the one that has been on canvey island since it was built in 91'
fortunatly it was covered for most of the time so the gelcoat is in excellent condition, and should polish up like new.

i have taken onboard the many opinions expressed by posters, and will probably keep the rig as designed,as it seems to work well, though a bit more expensive with roller furlers etc.

hopefully i will be back there in the next few weeks once i have the engine sorted and post some more pictures of the next phase of the adventure!

Thumbs up Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

I return to the UK from Thailand on 31st July. I want to go to Canvey to see some friends so is there a chance of meeting. My phone number is +44(0)7802271131 and my email address is peter@hatcherlines.co.uk. I always found my Elite a beautiful design even though she was so unusually different to the "normal" boats.

Peter

Indeed
she might have a point though!

we need to be out the house by the end of the week, and back on the big boat........
the house is still half full of stuff, the boat needs the batteries connecting up,water pump, fridge, toilets etc sorting......and no parking during the week!
methinks today might be busy
