it is a bit too cold for laminating work on the catamaran so mainly in the workshop at the moment.

as a little project on the side,I just disassembled , cannabalised 2 yanmar YSB 8 engines and rebuilt into one good one,which I fired up for the first time yesterday,runs very sweetly.

still looking for a suitable mast,about 11.6 meters if you hear of one let me know.

turns out the spare engine I had for parts was in great condition once I freed the piston and stripped it down.......the older engines oil pump was shot causing it to fail.

So glad you were able to find the mast! Kinda important for a sailing boat.

the fun bit is going to be transporting it!
at 40 ft it sure isn't going to fit on my car roof rack.

just got my self a nice new mast!
well 2 years old,complete with rigging and Facnor roller furler.

500mile round trip to fetch it but well worth it

don'tcha love it when a plan comes together!

mast needs a bit of modification,as the prout extended rig calls for double damonds and double spreaders.

hoping somebody out there has a rig plan for the prout elite 12.2meter(40ft) mast

At the rate your going, you'll have a cat with the capabilities and comfort of a $500K model at 1/10 the coin. Gotta love that.

beer money........and champagne tastes comes to mind!

about 8k spent so far for what retailed at 120k,just need some sails and a bit more interior.......and maybe another 1000 hours labor!

Yep, its that labor and fabrication skills that turns a sow's ear into a silk purse. But hey, if your not delivering someone else's $500K cat, those hours give you what the upper crust folks have, that is just plain beautiful. Not only that, you get to customize to your tastes at will during the refit/rebuild.

if I was really clever I should be offering boat building classes to wannabees,and that 1000 hours might pass very quickly

quite the opposite!
i have managed to organise a mast,and transport it to my workshop,ready to be re rigged.

I have also re- engineered the steering so as to have a direct cable system to the crossbar tiller arms.
this runs through 8 sheaves via the cockpit lockers and engine compartment to the aft cross beam.

which in turn meant fabricating and glassing in the cockpit lockers and under cockpit cross section bulkhead which is now more or less finished!

at the moment I have just cut out the plywood for the transverse mast supports and main bulkhead which will get glassed in in the next few days.

seems like every time I go to take some photos the batteries are flat on my camera
will see If i can get some shots later and post them

pics as promised!

door and frame laminated in place,and sealed with sikaflex.

window for nav plotter above the helm.

cockpit lockers all laminated in.

steering sheaves in the process of being fitted.

getting there slowly , will probably do floors in the aft cabins and aft main bulkhead next,once the steering is finished.
