using 2 systems at the moment ,depending on the location, and strength of bond needed.

with both I use a fillet of either epoxy/silica or polyester gravilax bonding paste with 3/4" radius.

with epoxy then 1-2or3 layers of 2"or,3"and 4" tape with filler still soft/uncured and resin slightly thickened with silica.

with polyester 2-3layers of 6" 900gsm/2 csm, generally with filler cured.

all joins get ground out pre laminating, and ground again if using gravilax that has cured.
epoxy is always put on progresivly, with fillet wet,so no need to grind a second time.

Snowgoose35 - do you have a link to the ebay page.. I can't find them. (perhaps Canada vs UK search?)

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

atoll,

I'm referring to the cable which steers the outdrive - not the locking for reverse cable. In our Prout this is connected to a foot pedal below the wheel (which from your photos looks to be the same).
In my discussions with Sillette they said that this steering cable on Prouts (and all silletts) was a Teleflex UD617 (~12' or 3.25m) which historically was 3/8" diameter rod/cable, but it is now 5/16" which his not strong enough for the sonic steering. If you know of a Part Number which is 3/8" that would be wonderful. Sillette will custom make them for $$ and then shipping to Canada, so I'm hoping to find something "standard".

the drive leg I have used was one I bought off ebay for £100,and is not the extended version, just the standard mk1 type 100 with 2:1 reduction and gearbox built in.

if you are referring to the steering,at the moment the yoke is locked on mine as this was quite worn when I bought it,so unable to steer with the leg.

as i have been also installing the wheel steering on the boat,i have done quite a bit of research on Teleflex systems,so if I can be of any help let me know.

I seems like the discontinued cables are still available here in the uk,but part numbers have been changed.

cheers atoll

hi geoffr
yes after re reading your post I realised you were referring to the Teleflex/morse foot control, and yes mine is 3/8,but it has sat there unused for 25 years!

and you are correct they only supply 5/16 cables these days.
these can be bought online from Marine Megastore: Buy Marine Boating and Chandlery Equipment Online Chandlery 15% off orders over £300!*

you might try these guys in the link below as they took over whitlock and morse controls in the uk so might have some old 3/8 stock

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

atoll,

Thanks - unfortunately they don't do equvalents to telflex. It looks like I either re-design or buy the custom cable from Sillettte (~£200).

that price is actually not that bad as the 4.5m 5/16 cable is about £160

UD617 MARINE CONTROL CABLES 4.5mtr | eBay

The very one I bought and fitted last month - fits perfectly to steer the leg and was identical in every way to the Sillette one - except £60
