Mounting Location?

Where would you install a hailer speaker for the vhf, or a horn, on a sailing catamaran.

You see them up front and exposed on power boats, but sheets are an issue for a sailboat. If they are enclosed, would they be too muffled.

Looking for experiences and the pros and cons.

Re: mounting location?

I mount them just under the radar support, so they appear tall and thin. It faces slightly down to ensure good drainage. They are then shielded from the headsail as you tack.

Re: mounting location?

Nice picture. I hadn't thought of the vertical and downward facing setup.

Did you make a custom bracket, or was there something included with the horn that was easily adapted?

Re: Mounting Location?

It's easy. The mounting bracket is small and simply drilled and machine screwed to the radar mount. I didn't show the black UV-protecting split loom that slips in afterward. And squirt some sealant in the mast hole.....
