If you bought a Lagoon 380 twenty years ago and kept up with maintenance you could sell it for the same money today. Same money - not representing the same value.

Basically 20year deprecation is roughly equal to the inflation in that time. Not bad.

(For US based cruisers) Can people use boat loans for new boat purchases? Since practically all new boats are built outside of US, I hear that loans are not an option. Is that more cash or do people use home equity type loans for new boats?

Pretty well every boat I have owned has sold in £ notes for more than I paid for it and more than the original new price

It's they way of things with multihulls because of demand and scarcity. Not so much with monohulls because the masive supply. However, because of inflation those £ buy far less, so in real terms the buying power of each successive sale has decreased.
