multihull nets

Hi all I am sharing my experience regarding new multi nets that I recently purchased, I bought dyneema netting, the product is called ultra cross silver,
the price from the only australian supplier was $2500.00 plus delivery,
the price I paid was $740.00 delivered from Italy.
I hope this helps.

What are the dimensions of the netting you purchased?

I’m in Brisbane and just about to do a re-bungee on a net, (if it fails the inspection), your ultrasilver suggestion might be the way to go. We have a local dealer at Yatala so I might stop on the way through and see if it’s what might work. It needs to be foot friendly and easy to attach.

Re: multihull nets

We have Ultra Cross netting on our catamaran, will provide the same caution I did in the last thread on this subject - there is no give in UHMWPE netting.

We love our tramps, but they are not tramps. Used to be we had kids come over and play on the nets, bouncing around. There is no bounce with UC. What does it matter you ask (and, indeed, this is one of the great things about these nets when handling an errant sail, in the rain, at 0-dark-thirty)? Many multihull attachment points are not built for the increased stress of a very-low-stretch net. When you jump up and down on a bouncy tramp the elasticity and stretch distribute the load at the edges quite widely. With a UHMWPE net when you fall on the net the load is transmitted directly and immediately.

Not saying don't use them, we love ours, but be cognizant of the changed loading aspects for the attachment points. Have seen several failures directly related to changing to low stretch netting.

Re: multihull nets

Hi Heywood thanks for the info, I havn't attached mine yet so your post is food for thought. you could use elastic type material to attach the dyneema net to the fixing points to allow a little bit of give without making it like a traditional tramp??
I think I will stick with the firm footing and make a more stiff platform and any kids who are onboard will have to find other things to keep themselves amused,

The dealer is “ Hampidjan” at Yatala, I’m just on my way back to Bris now and if the freeway gets any slower I’m going there in the next hour

Re: multihull nets

Well that was an excellent detour in search of a tramp net. These guys have everything Dyneema, not only the major users cordage… tugboats, shipping and fishing but yacht stuff as well. Its a scandinavian company and they bring the ultracross dyneema in for a trampoline net maker here in Brisbane, if anyone wants his details just PM me. It was a delight to watch the crew splicing thimbles big enough to put my leg through in 4” diameter multi strand tow lines.

The store does not recognise “ultra cross silver” or any other combination. What is the product code you used?

Re: multihull nets

Certainly looks very affordable!

Just curious the 'sides' where you hook it up to the boat, would they have a different finish? / could you share pictures when installed?
