My dream - sail in a high-speed trimaran. Possible?

Hi.
I'm from California.
My dream is to sail in a high-speed trimaran. Just want to try.
Is it even possible without being part of the team?

Yes. There has to be a concatenation of circumstances, but I've been on one without being a racer.
Right-place-right-time; whom you know; etc

You can also just look in places like this one:
Ultim Emotion 2
They offer exactly what you want.

Re: My dream - sail in a high-speed trimaran. Possible?

In 2014 I was briefly staying at the marina on my 39ft catamaran in Richmond, CA, on SF Bay. There was a large (65foot?) former New Zealand ocean racing trimaran based there. They were going out to do a photo shoot with the SF Bay bridge as a back drop, with a camera man on a powerboat. The owner said he liked to sail with a minimum of four onboard and he was one person short. It was a weekday afternoon with few people around and he asked me to help crew.
The wind was gusting under the bridge in the 25knot plus range and we reached back and forth, easily over 20knots, nearing 30knots. This was not a high tech boat, just a large trimaran with a good sized rig.
It was impressive how easily the boat loped along at 20+ knots, as if it could do twice that in the right conditions.
I have had my own catamarans and been on Farrier trimarans at just over 20 knots, though that felt like they were reaching their max.
I see there is a large trimaran based at Marina Bay Yacht Harbor, Paradox, in their photo gallery.

Re: My dream - sail in a high-speed trimaran. Possible?

From what I’ve read only, to get a boat into survey to do such charters the survey requirements pretty much kill the boat. At least here in Australia.
I don’t expect anywhere else would be much different.
Public service bureaucracy’s aren’t known for their outside the box thinking.

It was cool. I get more thrills from a broad-reaching, full-keeled, gaff-rigged schooner though.
Different strokes.

Me- Foiling Catamaran at 50 kts.
I fly aerobatics because it is fun but 50 kts on a foiling cat seems on the edge. I like the edge.

it's easy really

either throw a couple of mill into a sponsorship deal

or

spend 30 + years training & learning...win a couple of olympic gold medals and a handful of world champs. you'll get all the invites you want (just ask jimmy spithill)

cheers,

Yeahhh..
Me skiffing mates like them gaffs.
I like the long keels.

You ..they.. got me guessing.. bracing somehow.
Different strokes.

Trimaran looks fast. Bouyansy bracing spill and wide shrouds to compensate.
They look super fast. Best luck.

Just rent a motor bike or ride your own 10 speed down a steep hill at 30 -50 mph and the feel is about the same.......and on a 10 speed you are definitely on the edge so don't freakout and crash

Most cat's/tri usually only do those speeds on flat or near flat water so there's not a lot of difference between the boat and a land vehicle without a windshield

A beach cat with lifting boards on a spinnaker run is another close example except you could be the helmsman if you had a bit of training just don't correct the wrong way on a wind gust or you will be in for one hell of a pitchpole.

There’s lots of smaller affordable tris that have pretty decent speed like my old Crowther Buc. Not cutting edge racer but pretty zippy.
