Hell most 45' cats have maybe three aircon units and if you know what you are doing a few hours maintenance a year is fine. Anyways like you say it's a personal choice.

My experience has been the more systems you have the more time you will spend maintaining and fixing the systems when they break.
We don't have AC on our boat. It was Cotemar that stated most cats 45' and up usually have 6 AC units, something I find unbelievable. I personally don't want to maintain or even keep the raw water strainer of 1 inefficient marine AC unit clean let alone 6 units.

Exactly right. It's a choice. Not a necessity.

The only things we truly need are water, shelter, and food. Everything else is a "want". We're on a sailing forum, no one "needs" any of this. But people set minimum standards for what they willingly accept. In order for them to go cruising, they "need" to meet that standard. Everyone's standard is different, from the guy who circumnavigating on a hobie to the guy who's sipping Mai-Tai's on the back deck of his 100'+ yacht while the crew does everything.

But just because someone's standard is different than yours doesn't really give you the right to criticize them for it.

And nor have I. In fact I've been saying exactly the same as you. There are needs and there are wants.

Re: NEW 47? ok, nice, but what's the diff' ??

Thursday at 15:00 I have an appointment in LGM to view the new 47.
The Helia and Saba are at display as well. I hope I can answer the OP's question.

Rob

BTW
I want a test sail on a Outremer 45 (booked for Thursday afternoon)
And I need a testsail on a 51 to compare (booked for Friday morning)

Not really interested in the 47.

Yes, needs and wants. But the only thing you are....getting.... in the galley on this 47 is the same lil mini stove design that has been around for 60+ years(2nd video). Or a two burner cooktop(1st video).

With the price tag that's been bandied about, enough seating to start your own floating emergency room, and engineering advances from bow to stern it's still the same ol mini stove.

I should attend the boatshow and look at the galley and look at the sales people and laugh: "You're kidding right ? What the hell can you cook in that lil GD oven ?"

A need or a want depends on where one lands on Maslow's hierarchy. It can't be determined by you.

OK. If you need air-conditioning to improve your self esteem, fair enough.

Tp12, simple, factual statements don't cut it around here.

Nobody said any different.

A need or want on your boat is decided by you.

A need or want on my boat is decide by me.

Why is that so difficult?

This argument isgetting a little hot. If everyone keeps this up the mods are going to shut the thread down.
