New Alpha 42 to be Built in the US

This boat was mentioned in another thread but I thought it deserved it's own. First Gunboat 55 and now this. We now have a bona fide catamaran industry in the US.

Shh, don't tell the lawyers, or it will go away just as quickly.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be built in the US

Seriously, lawyer jokes aside, this thing looks amazing. First, I love that look. Second, isn't that price insanely low compared to other boats? It seems to me that most other 42 foot boats with that many features would be closer to $500K.

So have any of these been built yet? I haven't seen any actual photos, just the engineering diagram mock-ups.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be built in the US

Here's the brochure:
http://www.aeroyacht.com/wp-content/...ochure-web.pdf
and the builder:
Fiberglass World custom fiberglass products architectural decorative marine automotive agricultural

I suspect that none have been built yet.

It always amazed me that the US did not have a more robust multihull industry. We still build monos and all kinds of power boats. So much of the parts are made here. Resin, glass, rudders, masts, booms, sails, rigging, hardware, etc. It's all here waiting to be made into a boat. Maybe things will change. Fingers crossed.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be built in the US

I know a few years ago the US boat industry got killed due to the "luxury tax" on yachts. I imagine builders are reluctant to jump back into the market with a "tax the rich" president in office. But if this is a sign of things to come, I'm excited. I've really just started looking and had resigned myself to older, shorter boats. Am I wrong that this is a really nice price for a new 42' boat?

Amazing price for such a yacht, and I look forward to seeing the first real photos. Would also be nice to have a choice besides French and South Africa builders and their horrible customer service reputation, I.E. Lagoon and FP. Well, not all South Africa builders are bad...

Where do I sign!

Yes exciting, but do we know anything about the builder? It looks to me like its their first boat.

I like that it comes in colors!! How about an orange one.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be built in the US

Looks interesting, but at least 3 things come to mind immediately after looking over the specs:

ground tackle: CQR? Really? Only 30' of chain? Total rode length 180'? All wholly inadequate, IMHO

house bank: 300 AH? Really??? Also didn't see the inverter/charger listed.

electrical: no solar? no windgen? no diesel gen (sometimes, like last week in the Virgins, it was cloudy and sometimes not windy, but the food's gotta stay cold and the computers need to work or kids can't get school done)?

no watermaker?

These things jump out as inadequate for a cruising boat.

Being that it's so inexpensive to start maybe they expect you to ad all the goodies. Sounds like a good idea to me as people have their opinions on what goodies they want.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be built in the US

Just about all boats are priced as a basic version. The stuff you want to add will cost more. Anybody got a price list on other manufacturers?

OK here's Lagoons prices. A 421 is 296,000 euros plus 9958 extra for launching etc. This does NOT include delivery, fees, taxes just to get it to the US. That's about $400,000 and you still have to get it here.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be built in the US

The company is Tarjan's Aeroyacht that is office based in NY. All previous Aeroyacht boats were actually built in France and possibly Argentina or somewhere else like that (I forget exactly where) and other builders like Wally and Sunreef build mega boats for them using the Aeroyacht name. So, it is possible that the construction may not be in the US or in NY. I don't have enough internet access to look through the whole site. Do they specifically say it will be built in NY?

As for equipment, many boats are sold as basic boats with rudimentary equipment, and the actual cruising equipment is chosen as options during the sale or added on after. Nothing unusual about that.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be built in the US

Yup. The website makes a big deal about it being a US made boat. The builder is an established US company and appears to have lots of FG experience although I think this is their first cat.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be built in the US

For comparison.
Leopard 39 price list from 2011
http://northernmultihulls.files.word...ard-39-119.pdf
and the 44
http://northernmultihulls.files.word...11-english.pdf

They don't make a 42 anymore.
Before you guys nitpick me to death just be aware that I know this is a bit like comparing apples to oranges but it's what we have for comparison. I was dropped on my head as a child and rode the special bus to school so don't pick on me. I am special and my mommie tells me so.
