In my opinion the XCS 11 is the replacement for the well sold Lagoon 380 that was discontinue last year. But since it was a bestseller they needed to do something.

So they created the new brand and took the Lagoon range a bit more in the pricier range and start off with the 40 instead of the 380.
Huh? The XCS 11 is a 37 ft LOA boat. Not 40 ft.

I guess he is talking about the "Lagoon 40".

I think they replaced the cheap Lagoons with the Excess brand and moved the Lagoon brand up a notch towards the more luxurious marked.
And their smallest model is now the so called Lagoon 40, instead of the Lagoon 380.

The Excess 12 use the hull from Lagoon 40 & 39. Only the Excess 11 has a new hull mould

Speak to customs directly they are not the enemy and can be very helpful.

There may be a way of reclaiming the VAT if the final destination is outside the EU. There are also arrangements that involve flagging the vessel in France and leaving the EU within a certain period.

I doubt it. The trend has been toward bigger entry level threshold. Seawind moved from a 1000 (10 meter), to a stretched 1000 XL (36 ft), that they no longer build. Since about 2012 (I think) the entry level is the 1160, although in 2015 thye introduced a Lite version with outboards, and less standard equipment with more as options. The margins on larger mutihulls are greater, so i dont think you will see any of these production builders going smaller. IMO.

Being an earlier design the 1000XL2 was pretty much the same build cost as the 1160 Lite. So the sell cost was heading toward the 1160 Lite so no point building the 1000

So generally you are saying, from a economic Point of view, there is no reason for the manufacturers to build a smaller than the already existing boats. Unless they are pointing towards a very low optioned base boat for People who dont need too much highly priced base Modell Equipment.

That's the way it's been going for almost the last twenty years. When I was buying my 44 ft boat back in 2002, Privilege had just dropped the 39ft 395 from their price list. I asked the sales director why as I thought it was a very nice boat. She said it cost almost the same to build as my boat and since their factory capacity was limited they were better off concentrating on bigger boats.

18 years later the 44ft and 46ft have now gone and Privilege's entry level is now 50ft!
