Re: Opinion choice between two cats

Not much information to go on there, but I'll have a stab and go for CAT1 for the following reasons:
-The second hand market is generally stronger for Owner's versions when you come to sell.
-Bigger engines are safer, more comfortable ride in a seaway, less hours.
Storage should be more than adequate on the owner's. You don't want to overload in any case.
- Put an offer in for the Code D on the charter cat if you are worried about missing out there. If you are sailing trades, you might want to look at other sails instead such as a parasailor - more choice for you in any case once you have one year's experience on the boat.

I hope that helps

Re: Opinion choice between two cats

First, charter experience is fine But take sailing lessons before buying the boat. We did a weeklong live aboard sailing course to get our certifications. You probably won’t be able to get a insurance without them.

My wife and I only had one week of Live aboard sailing school experience before we bought our boat. We lived on it for four years and cruised the gulf coast, and the East Coast from Gulfport, Mississippi to Savannah, Georgia, and with two seasons spent in the Bahamas. Obviously the more experience you have the better, but if you’re smart and conservative with your Weather when you sail You can do this. Don’t buy the boat thinking you’re going to circumnavigate right away, you’re not. If you commit to just coastal, cruising, living and dying by the weather and tide forecasts This is manageable.

Another note. We bought the boat in Key Largo and paid an instructor for two days of Training in close water maneuvers in the canals and docking. Probably the second best money we ever spent other than sailing school to get ready to live aboard.

About your boat recommendations. We bought an owners version, and it was easy to find a buyer for it. They are always in demand. Get the larger engines and you can always buy a head sail and have your boat rigged but you can’t change the floor plan.
