Hull No. 1 was recently launched and will be at the Canne show. I have been considering a purchase of the ITA for over a year now and I had the opportunity to visit the factory late last year while No. 1 was in construction. You can check out my video on my youtube channel "iliohale Productions".

I have looked at the Outremer, Seawind, and HH boats and in my opinion, the ITA is a great value and a fantastic design. The key guys at the ITA factory are outstanding and I believe their build execution is one of the best in this class of boats. My opinion.

Good luck

Gary
Beautiful boat. But, electric drives?.... ugh

The ITA can be had with diesels also ... just "green marketing".

Nice! Not that I'd ever be able to afford either choice.

Overload it and I am going to be faster and will ruin your weekend.

So, if you buy one, do not do ocean passage

People are known to starve on such cats trying to cross oceans.

have nice day
Actually, they'd only need HALF the food inventory since they're twice as fast.

I'm curious as to what the biggest NEGATIVES are for electric motors? Obviously, if you run out of battery power you're screwed. But don't most have a diesel generator back-up that can be run to charge the batteries, hence power the motors?

For those on a more modest budget and less ambitious ocean crossings, this looks like a practical sailing cat.

A high performance cat is about the only time I feel electric really can work for cruising.... But, I still would much rather have the simplicity, repairability and performance of a diesel if I were building new.

Re: Performance Cat makers?

Would you consider a Saba 50 a high performance cruiser then?

I like the Saba 50, it's a nice boat and I am definitely open to it.

Our Chris White Voyager 48 loaded with cruising/liveaboard odds and ends including an extra sandwich hasn't had any problem staying ahead of Lagoons. Of course the Lagoons we've met haven't been sailed by you so that could change. Toss us some crackers as you go by

Cheers,
you werre lucky that time. Next time it could end in tragedy. No wind, run out of fuel, in no fish area, yeah, it can get that bad.

funny you mention that. what qualification that skipper had? This is with 2x reefs in main and 1 x jib. No, i cant motor that fast.

Re: Performance Cat makers?

boatingnewbie,

Sorry, I was not suggesting the Saba 50 is a performance cat, it is clearly not.

I was responding to the post above mine that opined that EP was only for performance cats, and pointing out , in my perhaps too subtle manner, that the Saba 50 Jajapami owners are cruising quite viably & happily over thousands of miles with their Oceanvolt EP system.

You have a point. When it gets that bad I put Sue in the skiff with a couple of oars and have her tow me to shore (true story!).

To the OP, a friend has an Ocean Cat 49 that is remarkably similar to our boat. It's basically a copy of a Le Rouge, so put those on your list along with the Switch 51.

Cheers,
