That stick looks great on your boat! Way better than in the yard. Happy sailing!

[QUOTE=44'cruisingcat;427725]Good advice. Trouble is, the covers for the fenders cost more than the fenders do! I've been trying to find a cheap way of doing it.

You can buy thick stock fleece at better fabric stores. We made our own for less than $10 ea. The one we made for our step fender draws comments most everywhere we go, folks want to know where we got it, its not like it doesn't look homemade, but it works. Make em with UV resistant thread for sure.

Well done with the rig
WELL DONE, INDEED!

FWIW: We used to call those flat fenders "Rafting Fenders" (no squeeks, as they don't roll about).

Hello Gord,

I don't have experience with those so I can't comment on whether or not they will harm the paint. Something about the plastic bumpers can cause a dull/scratched spot on the paint surprisingly quick.

When you do all that work or pay a big bill to have the hull painted only to see it dull where the bumpers hang is something to be avoided if possible.

Cheers Joli

It's the salt that acts as grinding compound. Some people put terrycloth condoms on the fenders and rinse those out in fresh water regularly, it helps. Also, not storing your fenders on deck where they collect salt makes a big difference. I store them in a lazarette.
