Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

pirate Re: Santander, Spain to Shoreham on Sea.. have a laugh..

Morning folks..
Hi UpOnStands.. Welcome to CF..
Well.. that was an exciting final 58hrs to the trip..
Motor sailed from Les Sables all the way to Ushant cutting in through the Raz to save time as my forecast when I left showed strong NW'lies starting around Monday afternoon.. so if I did not make it past Quessant before the tide turned Monday morning I would be stuck in Brest for at least 5 days waiting for favourable weather again.. as it happened I managed to arrive to catch the flood and was through by 0600 Monday.
Also managed to see the latest from passageweather on my phone and saw the next few days were W winds between 20-30kts.. with the little arrows showing 4's and 5's.. Fantastic..
Monday afternoon saw me running before a 6 gusting 7 with staysail and 1/3rd genoa.. 4-5kts with surfs of up to 9.5kts.. and a rising sea.. and it pissed down..
Tuesday morning brought drier weather and sunshine.. batteries started recovering from the 40% they'd been drained to even though the sea's were now around 4m with the odd 5m jumping up to say 'Hello'..
Also found on waking that my target of Poole was now a fantasy.. the force of wind and tides had pushed me as far E as I'd managed to travel N almost and my concern was now would I get caught by a strong tide and get swept down towards Alderney around 12 miles to the SE and the mess of rocks, reefs and shoals in the whole of that corner.. but I was lucky.. put another -10 on the AP, unfurled a bit more genoa for more push and despite the mess of confused seas due to winds an currents managed to stay N of the Cherbourg Peninsula.. despite a teapot and a couple of mugs flying outa their rack and smashing..
What was that..? everything stays put on cats..??
Anyway.. side slipped through the shipping lanes and got in the E lee of the Isle of Wight around 4am Wens.. knackered.. so dropped sails and went to sleep for 3hrs..
Long story short it was a nice days sailing the rest of the way to the Shoreham entrance and Surprise is now bedded down in Sussex YC and set for a winter on the hard..
Trip turned out to be 7 days waiting in marinas and 6.5 days at sea.. not bad really.. and no problems.. apart from the teapot.
So next..?? its off to Samos towards the end of next week and the NE'lies of the Aegean for a contrast.. hope its sunny.. my tans fading a bit..
Have a grand weekend all.. many thanks for watching.. and your support..

Welcome back to real world.
Imagine that the Heavenly Twins ride bit like corks.
But damn good seamanship and bit of good luck.
Best combination.
