Call me cynical but I'd be willing to bet that it's more to win the marketing one-upmanship game than providing any real-world benefit to most cruisers. How often do most cruisers tack in a year?

In addition, if you are in a difficult sea, being able to back the headsail in order to not get stuck in irons is a real benefit.

If you're the type of sailor that buys a performance cruising cat, then probably plenty. These boats actually sail well to windward, so we do!

We do back our jib in most tacks by bringing in the sheet traveller line as the boat turns past head to wind. That backwinds the jib with the clew on the centreline until we ease the traveller line. Easy peasy.

We don’t choose to wait everywhere we go until the wind is blowing behind the beam.

Rudders are in!

Exting times here at the factory in Dubai. After some delays the mast and steering system has arrived from Europe. The interior fit out is well underway and looking great.

I’m a little confused, last summer you said you were launching in September…did you mean September of 2023? Six months behind schedule and not close to splashing is a little concerning.

Did the builder just totally drop the ball? Are there financial issues? Did they come across build issues that required extensive retrofitting? Something seems a little off.

Yes, I clearly had no idea how long it actually takes and the process to bring something from the drawing board, manufacturing all the molds and getting all the materials and equipment from suppliers around the world...to not even mention the virus and the effect it had on staff and supply chains. I'll blame my own naivety.

There is steady progress although it is taking longer than I had hoped for. Interestingly, hull2 is halfway done and will probably be finished in half the time hull1 took.

Our launch is fast approaching but I'm not making any predictions again!

Yep, I totally understand how the boat building process goes. It is odd though that your builder last year who you are working with so closely and you stated communicates very professionally was telling you in August of last year that you'd be splashing in September. Then you go radio silent for 6 months.

Was there no delivery date or build schedule in the contract you signed? Or is it in the contract that it will splash this year and you just made the splash date up last year for some other reason?

Re: Seaquest 46 Performance Cruising Catamaran

What can I say, 6 months ago in my excitement of the whole process and as a first time being involved in a boat building
Process I completely misjudged the time to completion. That date was never promised by the builder. My mistake

In the mean time life got in the way...but back on track now

So you literally just made up the splash date out of thin air and lied, got it. I do wish you luck in the rest of your build process but you've lost credibility and others should take caution and not believe anything you've communicated. Something with this situation is not right.

I'm inclined to believe Rorke Miller's earlier post is spot on to not get involved with Seaquest.
