Indeed, however he was seeming to suggest the paint line shows plenty of reserve buoyancy.

By my way of thinking the boat will be radically overloaded when on the paint line.

The OP reports sailing at wind speed so I guess his best speed so far is 18 knots; it must be fine.

I agree, if the waterline reaches anywhere near the top of the bottom paint she will be overloaded and the performance will suffer, but hopefully they've figured in a fudge factor of a few inches on the bottom paint.
I was thinking the same when he said sailed at windspeed and mentioned the top wind of 18 kts. In light winds our extended lightly loaded Seawind 1000 sailed at windspeed in light wind. Once the wind picked up she would maintain about 75% of windspeed, hopefully the 1160 lite will surpass that. I'm a believer in the Seawind line of boats and hopefully the 1160 lite will be a success.

We have our antifoul/paint line about 100mm above the actual waterline. If you don't do this, you end up with stains and green crud on the paint just above the waterline.

Yes, the transoms are immersed on an 1160 Deluxe, that is the drawn waterline for it, the light being so much , well lighter, the transom sits clear.

Andrew
The boat looks beautiful.
Questions if you don't mind
1. How do the Hondas go pushing you along??
I've still ordered the Yamahas but still thinking.
2.You didn't mention adding any cupboards to nav desk or galley-you happy with the standard open shelves in terms of storage space and function??
In the 1250 and regular 1160 the cupboards did add a bit of extra serving space up near the settee but also junk collecting area.
Good luck and safe journey back to Singapore.

Re: Seawind 1160 Lite Catamaran

We travelled 751 nautical miles at an average speed of just over 7 knots with Pali Pali living true to her name, great fellow sailors with me and , awesome experience . One of the many highlights of this South China Sea trip was the privilege to be one of the few sailors allowed to leave HCM in their own vessel, we hoisted the main at our anchor site in Vung Tau and then jibed down the Port marks for 30 minutes followed by 3 quick tacks in succession at sail speeds of 7 to 9 knots , once clear of the outer Harbour marks it was then straight line high speed reaching conditions for most of the remaining 4 days

Hondas were fine . Motoring down river from HCM we could do a max speed of 8 knots , fuel consumption at 3.5 L per hour per engine. Once we hoisted the sails we never need the engines again, we we using the code 0 and the main for most of the trip, even reaching the code 0 on the sprit was awesome, 7 to 8 knots in 11 knots of Breeze was the norm with apparent wind at 60

The standard is really all you need and I also prefer the openness without the shelves,

Agree, and galley down is the best option in a 12 m cat, preparing meals at sea was a dream , even in heavy conditions

Hi Andrew
The boat looks fantastic and you must be having a ball. Mine is due May and watching you just makes me more impatient and excited.
Did you stick with the Dacron main as it looked very sleek in the videos. Wasn't sure if you got the laminate or just looks good because it's new??
Thanks
Graeme

Hi Graeme,

Sails are standard North sails, I spent the extra $$ on the Code 0 , and schreecher. Only issue I am currently having is that I need to have the bow sprit fixed as it was setup poorly, and some more testing on the solar panels.

My advise would be not to bother with the factory bow sprit and have something organised locally when your boat arrives. So far we have had conditions from 6 knots right up to 35 knots with large choppy seas and the boat handles these conditions with ease, very well built, and a joy to sail.

Next steps is that we will be adding aircon and the watermaker over the next few weeks prior to getting ready for the start of the sailing and diving season here in Singapore which begins end of March.

Hi Andrew
Loved your video
Can you be more specific about needing the bowsprit fixed?
Thanks
Graeme
