Re: Simpson Inspiration 11 Mt

Gday Terry

IIRC the Inspiration 10 does not have a slip in the slot keel like many charter cats. I can't understand why anyone would build a cat that couldn't sit on its bum, that is a great advantage of a cat and it baffled me when I first met a cat owner who couldn't put his boat on the sand at Percy lagoon - why buy one like that?

To check, I would pull up the floor boards and check to see there is no slot the keel is inserted into after moulding. Hopefully there is an integrated keel that leads to a radius into the keel itself. If it is integrated into the hull moulding you have no trouble. It may be bolted on after moulding which should be fine too.

I can't remember seeing an Inspiration on the hard. But all other Simpson cats are built very solidly and I have seen many other Simpsons on the hard so I would assume he was the same with this design. Not being able to sit on the keel is not an Aussie design feature, it is some silly European idea so I reckon you would be safe. (Watching Mads from Sail life fix a cat's slot in keel had me shaking my head at the incompetence of the build quality and the design of certain Euro cats)

Re: Simpson Inspiration 11 Mt

Hi Terry

I cannot advise specifically on this design but I am building a Simpson 11 (stretched to 11.6) which has stub keels on which it is designed to be beached. During construction I have several times rested her on the keels only.

These can clearly be seen on this video: .
