Spectra tramp netting....

Hi Gang, I did a couple of searches without luck. Who has a supplier for Spectra tramp netting? Fish netting I suppose....

I don't want finished tramps, I will make them up myself for the bows of Terrapin....

Thanks pal. I called them - total area is 10 X 16 and the cost is just under $1000 for the netting. Worth every penny I'm sure, and might get 10 years out of it.

Noodling it through.

In Aus, Haverfords. Might even be worth a look for one not in Aus.

Spectra netting for hockey nets. No knots, easy on the feet.

So $60/sqft? Isn't that a bit steep, even for Spectra? What kind of strength levels are we talking?

Ummm, 10 X 16 = 160 sqft. $1000/160= $6.25/sqft.

Re: Spectra tramp netting....

Still pretty pricey. The current tramp is made from more common sailrite materials and I estimate the cost to buy said materials to be about $500, with another spool of Tenara. I would estimate the life of that solution at 8 years.

I'm nursing the current foretramp through this season and will likely build the new one over the winter.

Upon closer inspection, the holes that appeared after stepping the mast are in an area of high wear - close to the mast base. You tend to walk around there and turn there often, and always stand there while hoisting/dropping sail.

I did not realize that area was getting chewed up.

I built temporary patches for the season using Shelterite cloth, and will beef this area up when I build the new tramp.
