Spirited 380

Interested in any news of other Spirited 380's about...

"Minx" SP 380 Q is moored at Tanjong City Marina on the bustling Island of Penang - Malaysia, a most interesting place.

Next port will be Lankawi (Malaysia) before heading North to Phuket (Thailand) where Minx will be based until Jan 2010 when we plan to cross the Indian Ocean to the Red Sea.

The mooring here is exposed to swells and very loud Disco thumps on Friday and Sat nightsand is otherwise centrally located in "the hart" of town which is great.

Again any news of Spirited 380's may be of interest to many...

Good to hear of your travels, we met at Rob Armstrongs place last year and I am building a 380 in Hervey Bay. How are things going with 'Minx', any problems, or changes you have made?

Lankawi - Telaga anchorage

One of the very best anchorages for Cats is the Telaga Anchorage (part of the marina's facility) Has Clearing in/out facility etc.
Lat 006º 21' 31.7 North Long 099º 40' 57.4 East

Thanks for your feedback "Laidback".

I would like to try both Telaga and Rebak marinas before deciding in which to base Minx.

Looking forward to meeting you soon...

Cheers - Jon

Hi Peter,
yes I remember meeting you during a group discussion about Solar energy and DC systems.
I'd be very interested in how you are progressing with your Spirited 380 build.
Pop me an e-mail jonhowardhope@gmail.com
I will fill you in on my experience so far with SP380Q Minx.
Great to hear from you, all the best mate...

By the way the photograph of thet "steaming SP 380" is Minx (first production SP 380 in the water) on the way back after a successful showing at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show in 2007...

Minx
The best marina as far as access to Khua town etc. is the Royal Lankawi Yacht Club. Most boats will stop in there on arrival from the south. Expensive - no travel lift.
Or put the hook down in Bass harbour 200 metres from town.
If its an Aussie beach it.

Rebak Marina has lift out facility for cats - but getting to town is a problem - have to take a ferry - then a taxi into town. Boats can be left securely for months.

Telaga is new and big with marina berths and 2 separate anchorages, Need transport to get into Kuah town. Cats love it.

What's the story with "Spirited One"'s rudder shafts? I've heard one broke, and the other was near to breaking. Is this true? Any more info?

Hi Jon,

Nice to hear about your travels. Re the rudders on S1, it's clear from the photos that the rudder shaft problems are linked to an elecrolisys problem we had on the port side saildrive leg, hence the port rudder shaft being affected. We had severe corrosion relating to all metal parts in this area. There is no problem with the rudder shaft design.

Hope this clarifies.

Regards,

Craig Schionning

Spirited 38.

Hi Silverback,

Saw your post about 'Minx' heading for Phuket. I'm a professional skipper based out of Monaco and will be in Phuket in December. I'm interested in having a Spirited 38 built, but unfortunately the first model won't be appearing here in Europe until the Barcelona boat show in November, which due to pressure of work, I probably won't be able to get to.
Would like to hear your experience of the boat firsthand and wondered if it was possible to meet up in Phuket, buy you a couple of cold ones and have a chat? Look forward to hearing from you.

So it was only the port rudder shaft affected? The rumour going round was that one broke, and the other was very close to breaking.

could you post the photo's?

Greetings Jon,

How are you going, we have not heard from you and your adventures for a while. Rob launched his 380 a few weeks ago (remeber we met at his place a coupel of years ago - or more).

We are working towards a September or October launch of our 380 which will mean a 3 year build.

Regards

Peter
