Re: Stranded in Quelimane, Mozambique

Eat a bag of concrete, add some water and harden up. To the passive-aggressive emo virtue signallers getting up in arms over borderline non-PC posts please understand that your bullying is really no different than someone else's crass attempt at humour.

To Jan, I have been in a similar situation and for what its worth you need to ascertain what your priorities are,-it's a simple decision tree.
Boat or Wife,-- and the answers will become self-apparent after that.

Try and get some sleep and things will become clearer, quite often a situation like yours seems overwhelming because you are too tired to think clearly.

Oh,---and pray like hell, it works for me.

Well. I like to choose my friends carefully (rum helps) and I certainly don't wish to be cast in the bucket with "passive-aggressive emo virtue signallers getting up in arms over borderline non-PC posts" so guess I'd best speak point blank:

The man isn't sitting at his home harbor but set forth upon the open seas and now finds himself in a situation where he's stressed to near the breaking point and is crying out for advice. Doesn't mean he's given up - or that he will.

But in this thread - a couple of the comments about his wife came from wankers, pure and simple.

Thanks for posting that.
I was going to respond but my post would have been deleted for sure.

Re: Stranded in Quelimane, Mozambique

Nothing wrong with calling a wanker by his name, I do it often. I'm just sick of humourless people taking offence trying to guilt trip all and sundry. For crying out loud, we don't even know whether it's him, the wife or the ship's cat that's suicidal. It seems the least of his problems as it came after mentioning all his other issues so it's certainly not his main priority.

For all we know, it might even be a good trade, I know several guys paying huge amounts to ex-wives who would be ecstatic to swap their alimony payments for a sail-drive.

I refer you to your own byline,--"Being offended is not the same thing as being right." Dave Barry.

House points to YPSILANTI for the most productive proactive answer.

Can Jan overcome enough emotional depression to get there safely ?

They undertake extensive repairs here. All the required skills are here and we have an excellent yacht club and facilities. We have an excellent mechanic here and excellent boat repair facilities. This is your best bet. Inhambane is an option but I have no doubt that you will encounter massive logistical challenges there. Nosy Be in Madagascar is also an option but certainly not a good one. We did repairs in Madagascar in June but had to source the parts from South Africa. I can put you in touch with a guy that can help if you decide to go there. Nosy Be is the preferred destination there, to a town called Helville. However, Richards Bay is definitely a good option. If you do decide to come here, contact me and I will do all I can to assist you with contacts, local knowledge , advice and sourcing any parts you need. My mobile is +27 83 630 5073. It will take you approximately 7 days to sail here. Regards Mike French
It is people like you that still make me hopeful about the future of our country.

Re: Stranded in Quelimane, Mozambique

After reading the original post the SD doesn't seem to be the most critical issue The OP has to solve. But we aren't there so we can't judge.

He seems to be in bad mood and if he thinks fixing the SD would help to see a light at the end of the tunnel we should not make fun of him even if we disagree.

That said here we go:
SD 20, built in 2000, looking OK, asking 800 Euro.
https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-...4490-211-12923

Brand new SD20 asking 2200 Euro:
https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-...52957-211-6420

A dealer who sells used parts for SDs:
https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-...3448-211-18294

Maybe you can talk #1 or #3 into selling you the lower leg only. Shipping of the lower leg only should be around 130 Euro using DHL.

Hope this helps.
