We are off-topic, but I had a Mars BLDC in my jetski, the outboard had a surplus dc hydraulic pump motor, both had a controller I created.
For an outboard you really want to put the motor in the water and the controller too, so it gets water cooled. This requires a motor designed for the application, BLDC and smaller diameter than a normal motor design would dictate. Like a trolling motors scaled up.

Having researched this years before, and again recently, I haven't found anything off-the-shelf that can be used, so I have been looking into building a custom motor(s) for the cat, and thinking maybe I WILL produce a product, not an outboard really, but more of a Azimuthal Thruster with 360 directional control, and most importantly be able to lift out of the water to avoid fouling at anchor. Have not really seen such a product, at least under $10k.

Here is a pic Rolls Royce drive, but the motor would be even longer
