Used Cruising Cat Market - Your Crystal Ball

Curious to hear thoughts on the cost / value of used cats, specifically what might happen over the next 12 months.

Will performance cats (anything with a dagger board?) weather this financial storm better than “cruiser(ier) cats”?

I gotta believe anyone who put cash on the sideline has to be feeling good right now (for many reasons). Do you move forward and purchase? Buy into a depressed market and wait to go cruise? If you didnt get into cash, now’s a pretty bad time to liquidate your portco and buy a boat.

Better to own a cat than a pile of cash these days.

Timing any market is 50/50 crap shot. I have given up.

Maybe the best time to buy a boat was yesterday, and second best time is today, since time is short and future uncertain...

Inflation murders cash. Wait long enough , you’ll never buy anything. A boat isn’t an investment. It’s a hobby that you are meant to enjoy. Buy what you can afford and go sailing.

Any used asset by definition has appreciated at least 7% or more, keeping up with inflation. You can wait for a recession to come along and broaden your choices to buy as some people will be forced out of the market, BUT do not think you will get cheaper prices, just more options.

Re: Used Cruising Cat Market - Your Crystal Ball

I believe cash is about to be king; even with the 10% yearly central bank tax (inflation).

There's a somewhat probable drop of an additional 20% on the overall market possible withing 2 years. That brings down everything (gold, RE, crypto, toys) with increased volatility. Suddenly a large crowd won't be feeling so wealthy anymore.

The babyboomer, FIRE, YoutubeMetoos, CryptoMillionaires will capitulate and 45± Lagoons will be on sale everywhere.

The performance market will suffer as well. A Y2k.471 Catana @420k will be outbid by a bunch of 201? Nauti-Open 46s @ 300k (of today's USD). A 50 Outre won't be in such demand as to fetch any asking over 750k or whatever it is the current 'worth'. Waiting lists will shrink to nothing on Seawinds and whatever else.

But as in stocks, timing is the crux of all predictions. Being off by 2 years or four, means putting off your dream and the threat of life getting in the way as it frequently does.

I will gather my pennies and wait to pounce with half my targeted budget expecting to overpay.
Good luck wether you're buying or selling; or hodling
