Epoxy is not ecological friendly, nor is cutting down trees or manufacturing paints and anti fouls.

What makes this vessel any more "eco" than any other vessel constructed from the same materials?

Eco always goes down well with the Press usind ECo sounds eco friendly. powered by wind.

Love the boat but I have to agree with catmando. I dont see anything eco about this boat.

islanders been sailing and fishing on dug out proa for thousands of years for far cheaper and "eco". :P

Re: Wharram 'Eco' Cat Launch Party

i belive the "eco" tag refers more to the simplicity of the vessel ,ie beach launch able,no engine, for small island communities and sustainable fishing and inter island transport/trading.

rather than the construction materials, although a water based epoxy is used throughout and 8mm ply,so a minimum of materials, for what would be in some cases a small islands only link to the outside world.

Re: Wharram 'Eco' Cat Launch Party

If anyone can come up with a lower Eco impact boat (build and use) then would be kinda interesting to see.......not that I give a flying [Hoot] about the Eco side of things, but I do like simplicity and cheap!

ECO, refers to this boat in fishing mode.
How many fishing boats do you know of that sail to and from their fishing grounds.
No motor is pretty ECO to me.
These boats are used by islanders that do not have much money and get by on little to nothing.

Might be a useful way of landing fish - "caught" direct from a commercial (licenced) fishing boat that would otherwise dispose of it's bycatch, back into the sea - dead. Would save all that net dangling palaver .........albeit would probably need to have the full gear onboard, even if only to catch Eco Tourists

Re: Wharram 'Eco' Cat Launch Party

If I recall correctly one hull was built from a plant derived epoxy for comparative purposes Resin Casting | Epoxy Primer | Eco Friendly Paint | Epoxy Technology
The ply of course is a renewable resource, sceptics cynics and deniers can always find fault but I commend their efforts !
