See following pictures to see light weight performance catamarans don't have a monopoly on this very unsatisfactory outcome. Stay safe.

What a load of crud! I do not know what happened to the second cat, but the first is of Moorings A5130 which was caught in a bit more than a “gust” - she and her crew were lost during a direct hit of cyclone Banzi in the Southern Ocean.

Re: What catamaran is this

All boats generally are not immune to capsize, particularly those that are supposed to be self righting

Re: What catamaran is this

I don't recognize it, and can't think of any cats designed to sail with the mast UNDER the hull. My guess would be that it's from New Zealand, Australia, or somewhere else "down under".

Owning a Patterson designed Summer twins boat and noting on buying it that none of his boats have ever Capsized! they have been sailing the world for around 40 years so i guess they have hit all the gusts and people failing to reef as well.
its width is 2/3 of the length and its not a racing design full standing room except in the bunks.
cruising not a racing design.

Re: What catamaran is this

I was up at Store Beach and had just anchored for the first time in my cat when the storms hit.
Thanks to this forum I had put on a snubber which must have worked because we didn’t move at all.
Although we did see others resetting during the storm.

All very interesting......still think I would rather be on a FLOATING upside-down cat than a sunk leadmine!
