Re: Where can I pull a beam of 26' on the Lower Chesapeake?

On the Chesapeake: Cape Charles, Stingray Point, Port Annapolis, a marina on the Sassafras, and two other places on the middle Bay that escape me at the moment. If you're at AYB I reiterate Cape Charles as your closest reach: (757) 331-3100. But getting out of Cape Charles to transportation is hard. There is an Enterprise in Belle Haven - you'll have to call them to see if they'll pick you up in Cape Charles. Fly out of Norfolk. Port Annapolis is an easy option, a little more expensive but all kinds of transportation options. Enterprise and Hertz will pick you up; we have Budget as well. Fly out of BWI. Sassafras may be cheaper. Transportation from Enterprise and fly out of BWI or PHL. Deltaville is hard to get in and out of and far from airports.

I understand a lot of people like storing on the hard. I'd leave the boat in the water in Little Creek (Cobb's Marina) or Hampton (Bluewater Yacht Center) and fly out of Norfolk. YMMV. Drain the hot water heater and blow out the fresh water lines with compressed air. Pink for engine, A/C, fridge, etc.

Re: Where can I pull a beam of 26' on the Lower Chesapeake?

Auspicious,
Thanks.
I actually live in Virginia Beach and will be keeping the boat, when it's in the water, at Cape Charles Yacht Center which is a short drive from my home. Like many places, their lift is a 70ton travel lift w/a clear opening of 25'. I'm still on the hunt for a place in the lower Chesapeake to pull the boat.
Sassafras can handle it, but that's the wrong end of the bay!
thanks again,
Tracy

Re: Where can I pull a beam of 26' on the Lower Chesapeake?

Have you checked with Ocean Marine Yacht Center in Portsmouth? When I looked to haulout and bottom paint my Saba 50 (26.2' beam) in 2015, I got price quotes from them and
Georgetown Yacht Basin on the Sassafras. Quotes were comparable, and I wound up going to GYH as it was closer to home port of Annapolis. GYH did an excellent job.

Hmm. I've been in and out of there but I thought Cape Charles could do 26'. My apologies.

Ocean Marine in Portsmouth had the capability but they went out of business.

Re: Where can I pull a beam of 26' on the Lower Chesapeake?

Excerpt of an email I received from Multitech Marine some weeks ago. They're located at Pier 7 Marina in Edgewater.

"Multitech Marine North East is pleased to announce the arrival of their Marine Hydraulic Lift.

Multitech will now offer haul-out services in Edgewater, which is convenient to the Annapolis, South and Eastern Bay areas for catamarans up to 63′ in length and 34′ in beam, as well as haul out capabilities for powerboats up to 50 tons."

I think Pier 7 has changed hands. They've certainly seen a lot of investment in the last year or so.

Email I got from Pier 7 Marina in February states they are "A Catamaran Company Property."

Cape Charles advertises 26', and their lift might do it, but the well limits vessels to 25' max. Presto is 24' 10" and barely fits.

Cheers,

Ocean Marine did fold...I sweated bullets until we were launched last spring... but another business has taken over so worth checking out.

I spoke with them when I was in Portsmouth two weeks ago, but I don't know the new name, or if the Syncrolift is being used.

Thanks. My list of six haulouts is mostly based on what yards say they can do, except for Port Annapolis which I know can haul 26'.

Zimmerman's Mathews facility has a new trailer that will pull large catamarans. Excellent work done there.

Re: Where can I pull a beam of 26' on the Lower Chesapeake?

My Fountaine Pajot catamaran has a 22' beam and was easily pulled at Deltaville Boatyard three years ago. Much larger boats were pulled there so I believe that could be a good possibility for you. Call Keith Ruse at 804.776.8900 in Deltaville Boatyard.
Port Annapolis in Annapolis also pulled my boat two years ago. Finally Zimmerman marine in Virginia advertises that they can pull catamarans also.

Re: Where can I pull a beam of 26' on the Lower Chesapeake?

Deltaville has the same lift as Cape Charles and the same problem with the well. They would not haul Presto with 24' 10" beam.

cheers,

Re: Where can I pull a beam of 26' on the Lower Chesapeake?

Here's a list of cat haulouts, updated from Cotemar's list ca. 2017. For a 26 foot beam, I think Georgetown Yacht Basin (north bay) or Zimmerman Marine at Cardinal, VA if they have their new hydraulic trailer running. Pier 7 Marina (Multitech provides services there) has their trailer running, and could haul you. But I saw a Lagoon 60 there recently with a 1' x 2' hole in the bottom after it slipped on the lift. Ocean Marine was purchased by Fairlead and is transitioning to defense contracting.
