The Proper Yacht quote

"Houses, are but badly built boats so firmly aground that you cannot think of moving them.

They are definitely inferior things, belonging to the vegetable not the animal world, rooted and stationary, incapable of gay transition.

I admit, doubtfully, as exceptions, snail-shells and caravans. The desire to build a house is the tired wish of a man content thenceforward with a single anchorage.

The desire to build a boat is the desire of youth, unwilling yet to accept the idea of a final resting-place.

When it comes, the desire to build a boat is one of those that cannot be resisted. It begins as a little cloud on the serene horizon. It ends by covering the whole sky, so that you can think of nothing else. You must build to regain your freedom"

...in the preface of "The Proper Yacht"

In my opinion, the Dolphin is one of the finest boats out there. Unfortunately, the 60 is probably too much boat (and over budget) and the 460 not enough boat.

Do you have pounding issues with your 460?

Brian, I still believe every word of your quotation.

Even now much of my thoughts are about that next boat...

Just to be sure, it was not 'my quote', but rather one that appeared in the preface of a well known book, "The Proper Yacht". The quote itself was attributed to a gentleman, Arthur Ransome from Racundra' First Cruise

'Stock Type Design'

...excerpted from a couple of letters I've sent out recently...

I am currently contemplating a ‘stock type design’ in the 50/55 and the 65 foot lengths along the lines of the vessel pictured here:
http://www.runningtideyachts.com/dynarig/Tennant_Hull_V_ChainDrive.php
This ‘stock hull design’ idea is an attempt to be able to pull at least 3 vessels from a single mold design in an effort to keep new-build cost down. Estimated price of 50/55 size vessel in range of $1.5M
