That doesn't work. There have been numerous alternatives brought up during this thread and they were ignored........except for the Lagoon.

Re: Why doesn't this beautiful catamaran sell?

Here's another nice boat, just been put up for sale. I've been on this boat, she's very well built and maintained.

I guess my previous responses were too subtle?

We are not asking for advice about buying a new boat!

The initial discussion was about how to determine the value of a unique and custom boat and how to determine the risks of purchasing such a boat.

How would you know if any suggestion was ignored? We may have spent a lot of time looking at pictures and reading about the other boats. We may have contacted other boat owners. Just because someone suggests a boat - do we need to give them and this discussion feedback about what we think?

The reason I commented on the Lagoons is that my wife has toured a 440 and 450 and liked the interior.

I did say the Grainger and Shionning were not the style boat we wanted.

I did comment that we had almost purchased a Cantana about 14-years ago.

I am sorry I did not follow anyone's suggestions about how to spend a half-million dollars, but my wife thinks that should be her decision.

What is it?

Where is it?

How do I find out details?

I detest, hate, despise, and refuse to have anything to do with Facebook. I think it one of the most evil inventions of the last 100-years.

It's a rather large catamaran with slender daggerboards. I can tell you which catamarans it isn't.

I don't do Face Book either but the boat is a 2007 Schionning 1480 Wilderness in Puerto Vallarta.
Latitude 38 - The West's Premier Sailing and Marine Magazine
I couldn't find it on the MultihuulWorld website. Maybe it's not posted there yet.

Social Security and IRA's might be well termed 'deferred income', and they are not taxable until you start to claim them as income.

Any particular US State that I lived in during my income producing years can not tax my SS that I may have earned while I lived in their state. But now Florida can tax my SS, but Florida does not have personal income tax,...one of the reasons I moved here recently....besides the warmer weather and the ocean.

At one point I was considering living full time in Thailand, and I thought I remember being told I might avoid paying US taxes on my claimed income each year as a result of not being a resident of the USA for extended periods of time that had to include at least 12-13 months.

Not to rain on the parade but this is all wrong. I lived as a working expat for over 35 years.

With a couple of very rare exceptions the IRS taxes worldwide income in the year you earn it. The 13 months is part of the "bon fide" residence test. It is a test to determine that you are not a US resident. If you are not a US resident you may qualify for an earned income exclusion up to somewhere around the first $80k.

You are also confounding Federal taxes with state. Breaking tax residency in one state applies even if you move from state to state. Whether you are subject to state taxes while overeas is a state matter.

Anyway, it's complicated (of course it is) so get lega/tax advice befoire you decide to sail away and stop paying the IRS - or your home state.

Cheers...

Ahhh Grasshopper, in 61 posts you figured out how chat room discussion forums work. You get to ask a question, but then people will answer however they want. Some people approach their answers like an engineer approaches a match problem while some approach it from a more touche-feely psychobabble point of view, while others...well they are just crazy and we (along with the NSA) know who they are...

It's not all bad either, but people's minds work in such different ways what seems like a perfectly logical answer back can be totally useless OR it can be a little nugget of uncut diamond. That's what keeps us all coming back...well that or because we are all half to 3/5ths crazy and just like to pick at scabs....
