1GM10 Fuel Return Help

Hi,

I have inherited a 26 Contessa with a 1GM10. I am currently going through all systems to both learn how they operate and check for problems. The 1GM10 starts up fine, puts out good power, and sips fuel. I have noticed that there is no flow (maybe a few drops) of diesel in the return line (to the tank). Is this common in the 1GM10?

Thanks

Re: 1GM10 Fuel Return Help

Hi and welcome to the Cruisers Forum.

I don't know if a few drops is a concern. I had a small one cylinder Yanmar a few years ago and I was happy that it ran at all. At least there's an indication that the return line is not blocked.

If I were the totally obsessive type I'd be tempted to put a finger on the return line to see if it were hot.

My attitude is that as long as regular maintenance has been done and there is water coming out of the exhaust then all's well, though others may differ.

As a new owner I'd suggest getting used to the sound of your engine. If it changes then time to start worrying.

Sounds wrong to me. I'd expect a constant dribble. Do you get good steady full power?

Re: 1GM10 Fuel Return Help

Thanks for the response. Yes, I get steady full power, the engine runs like a top. It seems like the pump is feeding the injector the exact amount of fuel it needs, and nothing more.
