2GM20F oil feed fix

If you have a Yanmar 1 GM, 2GM or 3GM engine in your boat there’s a potential oil leak behind the starter motor that’s quietly waiting to ruin your day. Yanmar use an external steel tube to supply lube oil to the rocker gear (and the camshaft bearings on 1 and 3GM) but that little tube rusts out over time and eventually leaks....... and the low oil pressure alarm comes on. I found that the brake hose from a motorcycle fits through the very narrow gap between the starter motor and the engine block, has the same banjo unions (8mm and 10mm) has a s/steel wire braid casing, a rated pressure of 1,000psi and a 450mm long hose costs $15.
This only works with 1 and 2 GM engines, the 3GM pipe has a multi point feed with 4 banjo fittings so would require a different approach,[ATTACH][ATTACH]still possible if a small manifold was used ( but probably better to get the OEM pipe)

Good find Skipper!

This might be useful for 2QM owners as well although I haven't checked the finer details. The 2QM has a similar external oil feed pipe with the same potential problem.

I never even thought of the QM series, good point. Also, I never noticed before that there's a tiny metering orifice in the top banjo bolt, something to inspect if the rocker gear gets squeaky.

Skipperpete you are on my personal sailors GOAT list. A cheap permanent solution to an engine manufacturers unability to think OOTB. Solution resistant to corrosion and vibration, simple and a part easily purchased all over the world.
