3gm30 timing

i have this engine after rebuild and 4 mechanic,i now have a great one
the engine smokes under load
clean prop
" fuel
the conclusion is timeing
have ordered shims to adjust timing
how much in shims is needed to adjust this
i dont know it there are any shims in it now

i have ordered a used injector so i can do a compression test

The size and quantity of shims to adjust timing won’t be known until you either flow time or measure the point of injection mechanically. Once that’s done you can begin to see how much shimming will be required.
