3GM30F E jonhson waterpump

Apparently there are 2 pumps for this engine. You can tell which is which by if the pump is sealed by an O ring or not. My version has the O ring which I was told is the Johnson pump.

Does anyone know the johnson part numbers for a full rebuilt kit? The pump is pissing out water out of somewhere. Does that mean I need bearings too?

Hi , I had this problem on our yanmar last year alot of water coming out. You need to take the pump off {in our case this required taking off the engine mount} you will most likely find it is the "mechaical seal" that is the problem ,this is a ceramic seal with a spring they are about $20 to $30.

Call Johnson pumps and give them the pump no which will be on the outside of the wear plate. Beware the rebuild kit can sometimes be almost the price of a new pump .

Good Luck.

Re: 3GM30F E jonhson waterpump

Thanks. I have found a few horror stories about these pumps. Also the cost is insane for what looks like a $100 pump at best. I guess I should have left the pump off and brought it home with me. I didn't notice any numbers on the pump housing, but I was not looking.

What is a cost effective replacement pump for this engine? I heard I need to be careful when buying a new pump as the freshwater engine needs a bigger raw water pump to run the heat exchanger.
