44' Trawler

1981 CHB 44' Trawler. I have twin Yanmar 120 diesels. The shifting lever has to be in neutral to start the engines. The port lever is now feeling very not secure when trying to put into neutral. The engines will not turn over. I keep trying to slide the lever little by little but won't start. Both engines have always started and right away. Low hours, but not sure how to fix this problem with the port engine. Is there an adjustment somewhere? Help, thanks.

Look on the transmission for two wires near the shifting linkage. Take them off the transmission and splice them together. This will defeat the neutral start, which you really don't need anyway.
