4JH3 TE STARTER SOLENOID

I was having problems with starting so I decided to replace the starter solenoid. After receiving the wrong part I decided to put the old one back in until the new part arrives.Doesn't work at all now so I may have screwed up. the starter motor runs when key ed but does not push the bendix to the flywheel adn the starter motor keeps running. Anyone know how the spring & plunger should be assembled to remedy the situyation. I have to get it going for a week until the new part arrives. Frustrated in St. Lucia

Re: 4JH3 TE STARTER SOLENOID

First off,,take apart the solenoid,, and thoroughly clean all parts,, and use steel wool on copper parts until they shine, look for obvious wear on copper parts,,and where possible install part the other way around if the cut out is the same on both sides.
Then re-assemble, grease the corkscrew splineed shaft,,and re-instal most of the time this does the trick.
most starter solenoids work on the same principle,,here is a link with directions and pictures: AircooledTech.com - Starter Solenoid Repair

I wouldn't use steel wool though. Use a fine flat file if you can access the parts to polish or use Scotch Bright Pads.
