Same here. I take my impeller out every fall. Don't like the idea of leaving it in the housing for a long time, not moving. The flaps are bent very tightly on the compression surface of the pump. That can't be good on the rubber. Also, it gives you a good opportunity to inspect it.

If there are not cracks, it goes in the following spring.

I coat the impeller with PTFE gel (the zipper lubricant) before installation. I figure it gives a good bit of lubrication until the seawater gets there.
