Additional raw water supply for Yanmar saildrive

My boat is currently out of the water and contemplating adding a couple of ball valves to a T connector and being able to have an additional raw water supply for the 3GM30 engine from a separate raw water inlet. We are getting a lot of plastic bags getting into the saildrive raw water intake and this stops overheats the engine, was hoping this would offer an option until can clear the blockage and get into port etc.. I have heard that Yanmar discourages this due to possible overheating of the gearbox in the sail drive but have never seen it in print from Yanmar so would like to see if anyone has done this before and if they had any overheat or damage to the gearbox resulting from this. The raw water cools the gearbox so continuing to operate without cooling could be an issue. For short term emergency sure it would work, just make sure all the additional fittings aren't going to create restrictions and the bypass is secured and well labelled..

For plastic bags, back flushing with air or water can work.
