Alternator wiring - Motorola 8RG2009A

I'm trying to re-wire the alternator on my old Universal M-18 diesel after having taken it off the motor and - unwisely - not haven taken a picture of it first. I've attached a picture of the alternator layout below. From the labels it seems like I would wire the stud at 7 o'clock to the battery connection at the starter; the stud at 5 o'clock to the ground connection on the engine; the stud at 3 o'clock to the terminal strip stud that leads up to the tachometer at the control panel; and the yellow wire coming from the regulator would go to the starter solenoid (which is connected to the start circuit of my control panel). This makes sense from the labels, but I wanted some confirmation from more experienced eyes and I wanted to double check that the "neg ground" should actually go to the ground on the engine.

Did this way of wiring your alternator work? I am doing the same installation.

This is a Leece-Neville 8mr isolated alternator, yes the negative has to end up at the negative of the battery, the old wire should show this, either coming from the battery negative or as you say the motor negative. I removed the regulator from this alternator and replaced it with a remote regulator. I think mainsail has instructions on how to do this on his how to website…maybe take a look at this for even more clarity
