Anodes and paint

Took my anodes off my Gori Shaft and Yanmar SD25.

Both prop and saildrive were really covered w barnacles, so I am going to paint w Trilux (primed first).

I am assuming that I do NOT paint under where the anodes are? Or do they get their conductivity from the screws that hold them in? If that is the case, do I not put on any loctite?

In the pic below, I have taken off the anode for the prop shown via blue arrows. I was going to mask this off while painting the rest of the prop and saildrive (also masking off anode for saildrive).

Re: Anodes and paint

Anodes go on unpainted, clean surfaces (shaft, prop, etc). You can add a bit of paint to the screws after installation as that area tends to erode a bit faster than the rest of the anode. This will increase anode life.

‘LocTite’ Threadlocker Manual: ➥ https://dm.henkel-dam.com/is/content...dlocker-Manual

Yamaha's "Marine Technical Guide" advises:
"Note: Apply a medium-strength thread locking material ... before installation – ThreeBond 1322, Loctite® 242 (blue), or equivalent."

Re: Anodes and paint

I posted this somewhere else but here goes again:

Yanmar Advisory Number: MSA2010-007
DATE: April 29, 2010
TO: All Marine Distributors, Dealers, OEM Boat Builders and End Users
SUBJECT: Saildrive Corrosion
MODEL: All Saildrive Models

....."When painting the saildrive and/or propeller care must be taken not to paint the sacrificial anode or the mounting surface under the anode. If the anode is painted or becomes insulated from the saildrive it will become ineffective"
