Beta marine which sail drive good bad or ugly??

I am starting to look at the Beta 43-50 with sail drive for my engine install. What sail drive does Beta use. Beta notes that a Yanmar saildrive is compatible with the Beta engines. But what sail drive do you get when you buy from Beta? I have read the Yanmar 50 sail drive issue threads and don't want to go down that road.

What is the sail drive and what are peoples experiences good, bad, or ugly.

Thanks

My B60 came with a Twin Disk SeaProp 60. I only have about 15 hours on it, but I am happy with it.

Talk to Farron over at Beta. He will work up the options and give you an honest opinion on what is best for your particular use. Then after that, ask around on what others think. They really do a lot of homework when putting together the quote - much more so than other companies I looked at who just sent me a spec sheet on their engines and price. Farron worked it up a couple ways and discussed with me the options and did a lot of the calculations of the current motor size, prop size, etc. to ensure there were no surprises in the end.

And he never kept calling after the quote to pressure the sale. Just asked to let him know if I needed anything else.

There are many threads on why people pick Beta. I have a hard to finding anyone with a negative experience who actually owns one(Some one will probably quote me with a dreadful experience now, lol). We repowered our old boat with a beta and loved it. Now with our Hans we need to swap out our 3qm30 before we head out for good, beta has been at the top of my list from day one. To be honest for the price I have been quoted for the beta, I cant find any reason to go with any other brand as of right now.

Cheers,

Jon

The OP asked about the saildrive option, not the engine itself. If the Beta saildrive is a pig in a poke, the actual engine is inconsequential.

I have always been a fan of Yanmar motors and when I first started researching the repower, it was a no brainer to install one. But, then I started researching the Yanmar saildrive. There were enough issues and bad experiences posted on the net to steer me away from the Yanmar saildrive. Like I said in my previous post, I only have about 15 hours on the motor/drive, but I am very glad I chose the Beta. All of the guys at NC distributor are great. The motor/saildrive is great. I am very happy with my decision.

If I had to repower a shaft boat in the future, I would do a Beta. The motor is Amazing.
