Bleeding the fuel system on a Perkins 4.108

Hi all thanks for you previous help on why my engine failed and had to get towed back by the coast guard. I have heeded your advise and got the necessary bits and pieces to replace. Now I know one needs to use the lever on the fuel lifter to bleed the fuel line but I am sure some of you have excellent advice and tips and tricks - awaiting for your assistance again.

The fuel filter is of the old type mesh type insert - thanks - k
