Question BRoken Compression bar on VP 2003

Good day Cruisersforum

On my Volvo Penta 2003 ( see attachment for number plate ) there is a “ bar “ broken ( see picture in the attachment ) . I can’t find the right name but somebody mentioned it is de decompression bar It is stituated just next the valves. ( see picture in attachment. )

But if somebody knows where there is a chance that I can get the part then I look forward to hear about it .

Currently I am In Beaufort NC but slowly moving NOrth through the ICW and are heading for Nova SCotia and then Newfoundland.

Greetings from Eelco from sv Mylady

You don't need it. Just remove the pieces.

Re: BRoken Compression bar on VP 2003

840590 is the decompression lever that goes on the end of the shaft outside the valve cover. The shaft itself is 860747 and is part of the Camshaft and Valve group. It is also no longer available from Volvo, so the welding suggestion or the "do without" suggestion may be the easiest. Do you ever use decompression when starting? Do you ever use the hand crank to start (and if you like to have that as a backup, does your installation actually allow getting the required force and room to turn the crank)?

Re: BRoken Compression bar on VP 2003

Yeah we were unable to get back to our boat for 18months due to the pandemic. used the decompression to turn the motor over and bring oil back up to the valves before starting it.

Welding the part up sounds like the only alternative.
