Well, I took it apart as everyone said I should. The lower unit was full of dirt and pebbles which we cleaned out. We also changed the water pump impeller and some of the gaskets, though the old impeller looked fine to me. The problem is I can't put it back together. One of the two rods just doesn't fit back in. Please see the photos on the separate thread I just posted.
