Cat D343 governor/throttle stuck

We havent run the engine in a while but last week before Elsa passed through we started the engine ran it for about 30mins to just do a quick systems check (Forward/Reverse, Starting, cooling etc).

Luckly we didnt have to start it when Elsa passed but yesterday I thought lets just give it a try if I had to start if everything would go as smooth as they should.

Well they didnt...

It seems the governor/throttle will not let me give it any throttle. I thought it was maybe the teleflex cables so I have disconnected them.

It feels like something is stoping it from allowing me give it any throttle. I can move the throttle back where it makes like a click that I think is maybe like a fuel shut off possition.

The engine does not have any electrical systems that I know that would be stopping it or sensors.

Any one have any idea what / where i should be looking? or what maybe the cause / Fix?

Thanks so much!

Deepthought, no one with specific knowledge of that engine has stepped forward. Here's a flying guess. Might you have engaged an emergency stop rather than the usual stop when you shut down the engine? Is there a solenoid stop that may not be re-set?

Does this stop allow you to start the engine? If so, it's not an unset emergency stop and we're back to square one.

Is there an interlock that prevents starting the engine in gear, which is sitting engaged?

In some applications, those engines have an electric emergency stop that requires resetting a circuit breaker.

Have I given you any ideas as to where to look?

Have you got any more observations to guide the analysis?

Re: Cat D343 governor/throttle stuck

I don’t have the service manual but I remember this engines injector pump having an oil pressure unlock. It actually locks the lever in idle until the engine starts then it releases. You might have glowplug issues if it won’t fire up and if your really lucky there is a hidden de compression device on the front of the rocker box.
It will probably won’t start if you can’t glo it and its a good idea to bring up the fuel pressure with the priming pump.
Pete.
